24 Hour Swim Challenge

Fundraising Event

24h Swim ChallengeA suggestion has been made to organise a 24 hour swim challenge to help raise vital funds for the club.  This would be a fun relay event where swimmers of all ages take turn to swim throughout a 24 hour period.

To make the event unique and enjoyable swimmers would be able to sleep within safe and designated areas of the pool building and if numbers and weather permit a BBQ and tea & cake stall could be provided.

All participating swimmers would be encouraged to gain sponsorship from family and friends in hope the club could raise £1000 towards a new club kit.

Before the club pursues this idea we need to establish the level of support from swimmers and parents/guardians and therefore encourage you to complete the polls below.

New Club Fees

As from 1st March 2014

Club TariffThe club has reluctantly increased the club fees by a small amount in line with charges for pool hire.  The increase is equivalent to £2 per member per month.

Parents are asked to amend their Standing Order details to reflect the changes.  Click on the link below to view the revised tariff.

A new page has been added to the website which contains the clubs documents and policies.Library

This comprehensive library contains codes of conduct, Gala advice and etiquette through to the duties of committee members.

We hope swimmers and parents find this resource useful and informative.

PLEASE NOTE  The Club will only publish documents in alignment to the Data Protection Act.

Committee Members Urgently Needed

warningThe clubs Chairperson, Welfare Officer and Treasurer have recently stepped down, so we are currently looking for new volunteers to take over some of these roles.

It is compulsory for the club to have a Treasurer as the role includes being a signatory for the bank account.  Without this position the club cannot function correctly and will be forced to close.

The club is also desperate to appoint a Child Welfare Officer and Sponsorship Coordinator who can oversee Safeguarding matters and help raise some vital funds.

If you can spare a little time on a few occasions throughout the year and would like to put your name forward, then please contact Ralph Lynch on 01404-811765 or 07866-744487 to express your interest.

If these positions are not filled within the next 3 weeks the club will reluctantly be forced to start proceedings to fold the club.

Christmas Cracker Gala / County Championships 2014

Diagonal Christmas CrackerCould all completed Christmas Cracker entry forms be in by Sunday 15 December with cheques made payable to Honiton Swimming Club.

Please find attached information about the Devon County Championships 2014.  There are qualifying times for these events and so this will mainly apply to our more experienced swimmers.  Please note, however, that this does not apply to the 800/1500m events. Sarah Lilley will let you know when she needs the application forms back; it will be fairly soon as the closing date is 15 January.  Please speak to Ralph if you need advice about which events to enter.

Aquathlon Results Amendments

July 14th 2013

It has been brought to our attention about errors in somesorry of the finishing times from last week’s Aquathlon event.  Unfortunately during the translation of times, some were misread and therefore entered wrongly.  This error has resulted in the transition and overall finishing times being different from those that have already been published.  Thankfully, the winners of heats 1 to 4 remain the same with some minor changes in the overall position of competitors.  In heat 1 the revised results have calculated Oliver Beech was the winner.  The club will ensure he is rightfully notified and awarded his trophy.

Please accept our sincere apologies for these errors, the recording coordinator accepts all responsibility for these mistakes and will ensure it doesn’t get repeated in future events.

We thank parents who notified us of the errors and highlighted anomalies in the results and would like to record a special apology to Matthew Bartlett and Oliver Beech for any upset this may have caused.

Please find amended results below.

Sunday 14th July from 5pm to 7pm

Please find links below for the instructions and entry form for this year’s Aquathlon.

Get your entries back to any Committee member as soon as possible, at poolside, or by post.  This event is also open to three other swimming clubs, and the 100 places available are on a first-come first-served basis.  We would like to have as good a turn-out as possible from our own club, and let’s see if we can match last year’s event for enjoyment.

We hope to hold a BBQ afterwards, to be confirmed.

We will need some volunteer marshals for this event.  Please contact Ralph Lynch if you can help.

Sunday 2nd June – No training.  We have a gala at Exmouth at the same time, and unfortunately do not have the training staff to run both, so the normal training has to be cancelled for that day.

Half term – there will be normal training throughout.

Presentation night follow-up.  For those who were not able to make it to our presentation night, there are still a handful of swimmers who need to collect their awards.

Award medals:  Cameron Boland, Dylan Wilson, Olly Talbothoniton-stingrays-logo3.jpg

Campaign medals:  Robin Wilson, Amy Hearn, Josie Yeo, Zara Sillitoe, Jim Dixon, George Stewart, Emma Bateson.

Trophies:  Carys (13-14 butterfly),  Oliver Upperdine (11-12 freestyle), Jo Davey 15-16 backstroke)

Most trophies have already been engraved, but not all.   Action please: If your trophy needs your name engraved on it, please return to me at poolside before end of school term, and I’ll get it done.

7:30pm Wednesday 5th June, Committee meeting at the Greyhound pub, Fenny Bridges.  We would really welcome any parents / guardians who would like to come along and get a feel for what happens behind the scenes to keep the club running and progressing.  We are an amateur club, and it cannot run itself!  In order to host our own galas and progress in other ways it is essential that we get a broader spectrum of support.  So, please come along, and maybe think of it as a rare opportunity to get to the pub!

Annual General Meeting & Presentation Evening

AGM LogoOur annual awards presentation evening will be held on the evening of Saturday 11th May.  This is our main social event of the year where swimmers’ receive awards from the Club Championships, and also where endeavours and achievements throughout the year are recognised.

This year we are also combining the presentation night with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) where the wider club events and future plans will be discussed.

We have made tremendous progress in the club over the last two years and we want to feel that everybody is a part of it.

Please put this date on your calendars now, and we will send out more details shortly.
