East Devon Minileague Gala, Sat 29 Jan

There is a swimming gala in Newton Abbot next Saturday, 29th January.  We will be putting forward a joint team with swimmers from both Honiton and Sidmouth, because we are both small clubs. For those interested, we are organising a coach service taking swimmers to the venue.
For those swimmers who have been selected to swim (please see details attached here):
  1. Please could you confirm your availability to swim as soon as possible, preferrably by indicating on the poster on the club notice-board, or by letting me know by email or telephone.
  2. The bus/coach to Newton Abbot will do the return trip from both Honiton and Sidmouth.  Please indicate how many seats you need, if any.
For those swimmers not selected, please don’t be disappointed – there will be plenty of other opportunities throughout the year, so keep up the good training!

Welcome to Ralph Watson, our new Head Coach!

As you know Jerry Wassall recently left us after over 10 years’ dedicated service as Head Coach. We are now very pleased to announce the arrival of our new Head Coach, Ralph Watson. Ralph was previously coach at Ealing Swimming Club in West London, the biggest club in the UK (1750 swimmers). Please join us in welcoming Ralph to our club!

Update on swimming sessions in the New Year

A Happy New Year to all, and welcome back. Swimming sessions will resume this Friday 7th January.

Please make a note of the following (minor) modifications regarding swimming sessions:

Sundays (no change)

5 – 6pm Stingrays juniors (no change).  This is for the very young new starters, typically 7 – 10 years old.

6 – 7pm Open to all Stingrays (no change).

8 – 9pm  Stingrays.  This session used to be for gala swimmers only, and by invitation of the coach only.  However this is now open to all 11 years and over.

8 – 9pm  Masters.   A lane will be kept for Masters training (no change).

7 – 9pm  Stingrays. No change but please note, contrary to some apparent misconception, this is open to all swimmers.

8 – 9pm  Masters (NEW)  This is a new session for Masters swimmers, that will run in parallel with the second hour of the Stingrays in the other lanes.

Christmas holiday dates: Last swim Sunday 12 December

The last swim for this term will be Sunday 12th December 6-7pm. Please note that on Sunday the early training session 5-6pm is cancelled. But – All swimmers, from smallest to largest, are encouraged to come for the second hour 6-7pm for an end-of-term fun swim! Parents, if you don’t mind being shown up by the youngsters, bring your togs just in case you are needed for a parents’ race…

Start of next term will be Friday 7 January, from which date all sessions will resume as normal.

Table-top sale Saturday 4th Dec, 9am – 4:30pm, Honiton

Saturday 4th Dec, 9am – 4:30pm there will be a table-top sale at the Mackerness Hall, Honiton (next to the church on the main street).  Hopefully many of you will have taken one of Carol’s leaflets from the poolside.  We are hiring out 18 tables to various other private traders, and we will have our own cake sale.  If as many people as possible could come and support us, again, you would be most welcome.  A sheet has gone up on the noticeboard inviting volunteers for a slot on the rota.  Please can we ask for cake donations to our stall?.  If you can contribute a cake, but cannot make it on the day, then you can bring it to the club night on the Thursday or Friday beforehand, and someone there will happily take delivery.
Finally, we do still have spare tables to hire, £6 for the day, so please spread the word.

Internal club championships this coming weekend

This coming weekend the final part of our internal club championships will be held at Honiton pool at the usual times, that is, on Friday 12th November from 7 to 9pm and on Sunday 14th November from 5 to 7pm. The practice session on Thursday 11th is unaffected.

As of next week all swimming sessions will then again resume as normal.

Upcoming Club Championships this weekend

Just a reminder that this Friday 15th and Sunday 17th October we will have our internal club championships instead of training sessions, at the usual times (note there will therefore be no training sessions on Friday and Sunday). So, warm-up at 7pm on Friday and 5pm on Sunday.

For those of you who will also swim at the Pyramids gala on Saturday (see previous posting on this website) that could mean 3 nights of swimming races in a row… ah, you got to love it!

Upcoming swim galas: Sat 2nd Oct and Sat 16th Oct

Please remember we have the Honiton Friendly Gala on in Honiton tomorrow night (Saturday 2nd October), warm-up at 5pm.

Next up is the Mini League Gala at the Exeter Pyramids on Saturday 16th October, where we will have a joint team with Sidmouth – please be there by 6pm. For this gala the following swimmers have been selected. Girls: Carys Lilley, Jess Morgan, Chloe Jackson. Boys: Oliver Upperdine, Jack Gregorius, Sean Kingston, Dougie Keywood, Dale Kingston, Connor Payne. If any of you cannot make it please let Jerry know so he can nominate reserves.

See you there!
