Club Records Broken in Club Championships

Sessions Results for 1st & 4th Marchsmash time

There were more club records broken in the 2nd and 3rd sessions of the Club Championships starting with the 200 and 400 IM events that took place on Tuesday 1st March.  Carys Lilley knocked 2 seconds off the previous 200 IM record and an incredible 20 seconds off the 400 IM record.   Our younger swimmers also did fantastically with Thomas Trude, Millie Brunskill, Heather Brown, Kaiden Chipping and Ella Hoondert all achieving PB’s.

In the 3rd session held on 4th March there were a further two club records broken by Ben Levy in the 50m Butterfly and Carys Lilley in 200m Backstroke.  Some other notable achievements were swimmers who achieved PB’s in all 3 events including Faith Rosenwald, Darcie Morton, Kahrys Flemington, Lydia and Samuel Gammon and Thomas Trude.

Well done to everyone for taking part and don’t forget to support and encourage each other during the remaining sessions.

Unfortunately there were some disqualifications for our older swimmers which the Head Coach will discuss with the relevant swimmers when they are next at poolside.

Improving Club Communications

Text Alerts

The club hSMSas recently been evaluating ways of improving on methods of communication so swimmers and parents are kept up-to-date with club related information.  Whilst the current method of emailing parents is beneficial it does not guarantee the information is immediately communicated to swimmers and can often be missed due to receipt protocols.

A possible solution to overcome these problems is to introduce a text alert where swimmers and/or parents are notified of relevant and important information.  This could be a prompt about a training session/gala or details about a club matter that has recently been published.  The email process would still be used to communicate longer messages or to send document attachments and text messages would be restricted to around 200 characters to make them manageable and readable.

The club believes this new process would be beneficial to all members and would vastly improve on our communications process, however, to make this viable the club will need to obtain the mobile numbers of both swimmers and parents.  Obviously consent would need to be agreed by all recipients and the club would be responsible for managing information in alignment with our data protection policy.

A system has been created and will shortly be trialled by our Club Secretary to test its functionality and benefits.  If this proves successful the club will consider introducing this new process within the next couple of months to members who have provided consent and mobile phone information.

In the meantime please share your views on this proposal with any member of the club committee so we can determine whether this will be an acceptable and supportable inclusion to our members.

Club Positions – Volunteers Required

As we move into 2016 the Club needs help from parents/guardians in a number of important roles.

Whilst it is appreciated both swimmers and parents have very busy schedules the club needs assistance from everyone involved in order to lighten the load on Committee Members and to help the club achieve its aims and objectives.

With the help of the current Committee the club has come along way over the last couple of years and now finds itself financially stable and fulfilling some of the Head Coaches 5 year objectives of introducing a new kit and working towards Swim21 accreditation.  To continue on this path the following roles must be filled:

  • Chairperson – After nearly 3 years in post our current Chairperson has reluctantly stood down due to developing work and personal commitments.  This role is important to the club and needs to be filled as a matter or urgency in order to meet the clubs constitution.
  • Media Officer – Whilst this position was filled by a couple of swimmers at the AGM it has been decided that a parent/guardian needs to lead on this role in order develop a rapport with the local press so swimmer/club achievements can be communicated and to help promote the club within our local communities.
  • Social Secretary – The club is keen to develop and enhance the club spirit by arranging a couple of social events each year where both swimmers and parents can come together to have some relaxing and fun time.  The Social Secretary role simply requires them to identify events and manage the arrangements with the help of others.
  • Website Coordinator – The website is an important part of our communications strategy and as such needs to be managed and updated regularly so swimmers can download and analyse performance data and parents can be notified of up and coming events.  Due to the potential impact on educational commitments this role would ideally be managed by a parent/guardian but in an agreed circumstance could be assisted by a swimmer.

If you feel you can assist with any of the above roles please get in touch with any member of the current Committee in order to share your interest.  Please remember the club cannot run smoothly or achieve objectives without your help.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year2016

The club would just like to wish all members a Happy and Prosperous New Year.  We hope it will be a successful 2016 for all concerned and look forward to seeing swimmers develop their skills and achieving their aims.

Cake Stall Success

The cake stall that was organised in December raised nearly £100 for the club which was fantastic.  A big THANK YOU must go to Hazel and Ralph Lynch for organising the event and to members who made or contributed cakes to the stall.  However, the biggest THANK YOU must go to Megan Layzell, Hannah Trude and Molly Kent who went around local shops in their new club kit to promote the stall and raise awareness of the clubs fund raising initiative.  Their personalities influenced many people to provide additional donations which helped make the event such a success.

The club would just like to highlight that such events need the help of all members in order to make them successful and we therefore ask and encourage both swimmers and parents to step forward when the next opportunity arises.
